3 Mistakes eCommerce Merchants Make With Mobile Commerce

You’re an eCommerce professional, but how are you doing with mCommerce? Mobile functionality is more than just a fun add-on extra that proves you’re down with the kids!

Let’s have a quick look at the top 3 mistakes online sellers make when they’re wondering about opening their doors to mobile devices.

Number one on the list is the idea that there’s no rush. Take it easy. Mobile technology is new, and it’ll be around for a while, so why get all hot and bothered trying to prepare your site for mCommerce, when you could leave it until next month, or next year.

Wrong! Well, yes, don’t get hot and bothered about it. But do remember that as a rule of thumb, most shopping in most areas of the marketplace happens these days on mobile devices. Don’t believe us? No problem. Amazon probably sells what you do, and they’ve got it covered…

But seriously, the point is that getting your site optimised to work for mCommerce is an absolute priority. This week, not next week.

The number two thought we like to challenge is the idea that only young people are shopping on mobile devices, so if you’re selling something that appeals to an older audience, it doesn’t matter if you’re not mobile-friendly.

Oops! That’s an old idea that is easily dismissed nowadays when you think about the wide range of shoppers, and how even the most elderly people in the marketplace now probably do at least some of their shopping via mCommerce. Another excuse to cross off right now.

And so to number three, which is really one to pay attention to if it’s new to you. That’s the thought that eCommerce is the same as mCommerce. It isn’t. Just because you have a website, it doesn’t mean it works fluently on a phone or tablet. It doesn’t mean it’s optimised and responsive. So if you were under that impression, now is the time to have a chat with someone about developing your mCommerce.

We’re here ready and waiting – even on your mobile device if you prefer. (And THAT’s what we’re talking about!)
