We all are aware that migrating to a new platform is a bit of a hassle, however, if you are a marketer then you will love some of the new specs in Magento 2. A lot of features on eCommerce platforms are often made with consumers who are predominantly in mind from better engagement to out-of-the-box SEO features, we think that Magento released its new version with marketers in mind.

Magento 2’s New Admin Interface

As part of Magento 2’s allure was its revamped admin interface, and the new design has not disappointed. It boasts a much cleaner design and also takes less time when adding a product due to there being far fewer steps, additionally, you are able to add products to a category by typing in the category name. You can now also manage how Google displays your content directly from the Magento 2 dashboard.

Get Better Customer Engagement with “Email a Friend”

Magento’s new ‘email a friend’ feature allows shoppers to seamlessly share a product that they love by clicking a button. You are free to customise the button template with your brand or message and can fight spam by limiting the number of email recipients and products that can be shared on a per – hour basis.

Magento’s New and Improved Marketplace

Shortly after the release of Magento 2, Magento opened up the ‘Magento Marketplace’. Good news for the marketers though as this resource is not carefully vetted.

In the past, you normally had to worry about the quality of third-party plugins which were living in the Magento ecosystem. However, now the updates marketplace has a strict place which means buyers and sellers can both benefit from the upgrade in extension quality.

The SEO Features in Magento 2

Magento 2 added a handful of features which make it much easier when optimising on page elements… in other words SEO!

It features something called ‘Fields Auto Generation’ which allows the user to set templates and apply metadata to products on a more global level. If the global options don’t provide enough control there is always the option to edit specific meta descriptions. In Magento 2 you can edit directly from the admin, you are also able to generate an XML sitemap to the configuration settings.

These are all well and good but by far the strongest SEO feature which is new for Magento 2 has to be the microdata integration; you don’t have to add any Schema or JSON-LD code manually. Magento will automatically mark up any new products. The only fall back on this is that at the moment it is still pretty basic, but you are able to edit the code via extensions if you are wanting more advanced microdata on the page.

A Faster and Easier Checkout

Magento 2 has introduced us to several features to cut down on car abandonment and hassle:

Magento 2 is battling cart abandonment by letting shoppers check out as guests and also featuring a two-step checkout process. If you are worried about losing subscribers because of the easy guest checkout features, there is no need to be, guests are able to create an account by simply ticking a box during the checkout process. An email with account details will be sent after the transaction has been made.

Another thing to add is that product images now load in an order summary so customers can see the items that they are about to purchase, alongside this is the shipping rates and options load automatically when a shopper inputs their address and it also includes an option to indicate that the billing and shipping address are indeed the same.

The Easier Way to Integrate With Google

As a marketer, you will more than likely use Google Tag Manager in order to handle your third-party UTMs. With the new Magento 2 integration, you are able to speed up websites and streamline your workflow by adding Tag Manager code directly to the Magento Admin. The drawback for this, however, is that feature is out-of-the-box only with the Enterprise version. If you are running the community version of Magento then you will have a third party extension from the marketplace then add the Tag Manager code to your dashboard and then you can enable the feature.

Out of the Box Full Page Caching

Magento 2 features full page cache capabilities, and it’s now an out-of-the-box feature, but even better yet you can easily integrate Varnish, an HTTP accelerator designed for dynamic sites which are delivering a lot more content.

Magento 2 Sites are Responsive by Default

Magento 2 features fully responsive web design on each and every site this is especially important given Google’s journey towards a mobile-first index. Better yet, the admin panel is responsive too so if it really comes down to it you can work via smartphone.
