Official figures have recently concluded that Britain is officially deemed the online shopping capital of Europe. We Brits topped the poll with more than four out of five British adults have bought items from the internet in 2015, in comparison to just over fifty percent of adults living in other European countries in the EU.
What may come as a bit of a surprise to some readers, and maybe even some Magento eCommerce business owners, is that older people in Britain were the most likely to shop online. In fact, the UK is just one of six EU countries where over half of internet users aged between 65 to 74 had purchased goods online.
Shoppers in Luxembourg, Denmark, and Germany made up the top four in terms of countries most likely to shop and buy online, while on the other end of the scale, people in Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Italy were the least likely.
EU statistics agency Eurostat provided figures that cite British shoppers as the most likely to buy household goods than any other countries involved in the study. Some more good news is that shoppers in the UK also appear to be the most satisfied with their purchases online, as seven out of ten reported that they didn’t run into any issues when making their online purchase.
There is a strong feeling that our affection for internet shopping will enjoy more growth as 2016 progresses. Following a recent global survey conducted via PayPal, it was reported that online shopping will grow by 29% by the end of this year, with us Brits tipped to be at the forefront again!
