The Czech Republic surprised itself and everyone else in 2015 after it exceeded all expectations, with Czechs spending up to €3 billion in domestic online stores. When compared to 2014, the Czech eCommerce industry achieved growth of more than 20%.
APEK, the Czech association for electronic commerce, revealed the fresh data for last year and has gone on to say that they are predicting the local eCommerce to develop by at least 15% this year. During the last twelve months, eCommerce in the Czech Republic accounted for 8.1% of total retail turnover.
According to Jan Vetýška, APEK’s CEO, this share has increased by one percentage point when compared to 2014. “The importance of eCommerce for the Czech Republic and the European Union continues to grow rapidly”, he said.
Not only 2015 as a whole showed an increased growth in turnover, the last quarter which of course includes the important holiday season, showed improvement year-on-year. During these 12 weeks, the turnover of goods sold online surpassed 25 billion Czech Koruna, which corresponds to €925 million.
What do you think, is the Czech Republic set to take the world by storm, or are they facing an uphill battle against the likes of our UK-based Magento eCommerce platforms?
