All you need is an email marketing list – a list of email addresses of previous and potential clients who have already expressed some level of interest in your business by taking any action that singles them out from the general public. These people are happy to let you know they like what you’re doing, so you won’t have to spend hard earned marketing budget on trying to get their attention. These people may well buy if you just tell them what bargains and new products are on offer, not just today, but potentially regularly for the foreseeable future.

So let’s look at some ways to build this eCommerce marketing goldmine of a database. Why not offer incentives for people to sign up. Perhaps they’ll get a discount for reviewing and including their email address. Offer a bonus for subscribing to your newsletter. Make the reward compelling so their eyes are on the prize. Pop-ups are irritating, yes, but statistics show they are a surprisingly effective way to achieve subscriptions.

To further tempt subscribers, you may want to be more selective about how you offer the valuable information on your Magento site. One way to do this is to provide some limited information that gets people wanting more, and then offering them the ‘more’ in return for their subscription to your email database – for example, an informative subscription-only article or regular newsletter.

Add perceived value to your articles and premium content with a bit of name-dropping. If you’ve been invited to guest on particularly high profile sites or have supplied products or services to household names, it’s definitely worth saying so. Try to get well known endorsements or guest blog on other popular sites that are relevant to your genre to demonstrate that you’re an eCommerce industry expert and hence worth subscribing to. Hosting webinars is another great marketing ploy.

Finally, remember the basics. It’s said that Amazon gets a whole percentage increase in revenue for every 0.1 seconds they save in page load speeds. Show your Magento customers you care about their online experience and they’ll be more likely to sign up for your marketing list.
