New sets of data released by IMRG and Capgemini Shoppers has highlighted that online consumers are forecasted to spend £2.9 billion through mCommerce on UK retail sites this December.
The new figures would mean that no less than double the amount will be spent on smartphones and tablets in a year-on-year comparison of the same period. The study shows that mCommerce sales currently make up more than a quarter (27%) of online retail sales and 38% of retail site visits.
IMRG and Capgemini have claimed that the split is currently 80/20 between tablets and smartphones, in favour of tablets, which equates to a forecast spend, by the device, of £2.3 billion and £600 million respectively in December.
In a statement, the digital market research group eMarketer recently said: “Tablets are particularly significant for mCommerce sales growth.
“As more consumers have embraced these devices for lean-back browsing of potential purchases, retailers have made greater efforts to make sure their tablet retail sites and apps are particularly rich and responsive.”
So if you haven’t got your mobile commerce set up for your online business, then there has never been a more important time to make sure everything is in place.
