Away from Magento eCommerce news, Facebook has, a short time ago, made public their newest appointment in Shant Oknayan, as the Head of retail, eCommerce and online services in Pakistan, North Africa and the Middle East.
Oknayan’s new job role will see him taking the reins in terms of increased growth and driving forward the engagement rates with the Facebook consumers on his new ‘patch’.
With just under two decades of experience in heading business development Oknayan seems as the perfect fit for Facebook’s eCommerce plans, and having previously gained experience through working with subject matter experts in corporations and governments, Facebook will feel they have made quite the coup here.
Head of Facebook Africa, Middle East and Pakistan, Jonathan Labin, recently said in an official Facebook statement: “The internet industry in the MENA region is witnessing impressive growth and this has resulted in the emergence of eCommerce, retail and other online services which the region’s mobile-first consumers access every day. Oknayan’s appointment to lead this rapidly growing sector, together with his depth of experience and knowledge, means we are strongly placed to help brands and consumers communicate with one another.”
Oknayan has good stock, having been responsible for Google’s market development for SMB in North Africa and the Middle East, before joining his new colleagues at Facebook, and was also awarded as one of the top 50 SME executives just three years ago by an Arabian start-up.
