The Office for National Statistics has this week published a new set of data that will come as pleasant reading for those involved in the eCommerce market, revealing purchases made via safe shopping online increased by a total of 14.1% in June.
This figure (14.1%) represents just over £944 million in sales in total.
This year on year growth aided the web-based sales to claim a 14.2% stake in the wider retail marketplace, which is something that will make physical stores’ ear prick up, as eCommerce continues to slowly invade on the overall stake, according to Internet Retailing, the research and analysis group.
Online food shopping also realised a tidy boost of 13% in the same period, although clothing sales saw a slight decrease of 2.2%, highlighting that it’s not every area of the eCommerce market that has enjoyed flourishing times, although it should be added that the clothing sector is likely to bounce back as consumers’ online spending continues to frequent.
It was in fact household goods which recorded a significant 41.1% upturn in sales via safe shopping online!
When discussing the new data, Melanie Richard, an ONS spokesperson, said: “June had been a good month for the UK’s retail sector, in part as a result of a number of major events helping to stimulate spending. With the Euro 2016 football tournament kicking off and the Queen’s birthday celebrations taking place, as well as the summer holiday season getting underway, an increase in consumer activity was to be expected.”
