Here at Media Lounge, we like to keep our fingers on the pulse in the world of eCommerce and mCommerce, respectively. We have it on good authority that there are set to be many digital advancements in 2016. So if you are looking to stay ahead of the game take a look at three of our trend predictions that could take place over the coming year.
Mobile Payments Set To Rocket
The split between digital and physical high street commerce will be further linked this year, thanks largely to apps such as mobile wallets becoming a customary feature on the newer phones, both Android and Apple, and the fact that more retailers will be accepting payments through services such as Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay, for example.
The notion of exchanging cash and credit/debit cards with mobile wallets might not be enough to sway the masses just yet. However, by connecting a larger amount of the retail commerce experience to the mobile wallets, particularly when it comes to offers, loyalty, rewards, and vouchers, etc., these will be crucial to gaining more consumers paying via their phones.
As we have previously reported in the latter stages of 2015, smartphone use is causing the number of inbound calls to businesses to experience an upsurge. You may have tried it for yourself, or perhaps not, but the option of voice-activated search has been steadily increasing in recent times. This means that consumers are talking to personal assistants through their smartphones and vehicles, and those “assistants” are always progressing and becoming more intelligent. Combine the previous point with the rise of smart watches and the variety of connected home devices, consumers are now talking to more devices from various locations, than ever before.
If you are looking to take advantage of this, you should be prepared and equipped to optimise digital content for speech-based (not keyword) queries. Additionally, you should be looking into learning how to ensure that content can be found by the consumer’s personal assistant system.
Social Media Will Set A Change For Marketers
In the knowledge that Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are both cruising towards boasting 1 billion monthly active users worldwide, it’s fair to say that we should expect some fresh ideas from the world of social media.
The experts are predicting that this year, Facebook will add more services and marketing opportunities for brands in both Messenger and WhatsApp, respectively. Establishing thoughts through what other messaging apps are doing and what the company has said in regards to advertising in its messaging apps, the additions Facebook will offer up won’t be traditional marketing or advertising opportunities.
