Social Media was once a competitive and dynamic space but recently became a little too predictable. It has all been going on for years, and it basically became simply repeating the best practices over and over. In order to help maintain interest in your social platforms, here are some new and exciting social media trends that every marketer should know about!

Video Is The Future

Video has become the latest major crusade, as it seems that the keyboard is transitioning into the camera and has become a popular method of communication. Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has already stated that his intention is to transform Facebook into a video-first platform.

Snapchat was the first video-orientated platform from the start so much so that they classified themselves as a “camera company” over the term a “Social Network”, but since then a lot of other platforms have taken this format under their wing, Instagram and Facebook both with their ‘Live’ feature, Twitter with their integrating live streaming platform Periscope and even LinkedIn has quietly introduced video features as well, though at the moment only for influencers as the moment.

Social Isn’t Just For Millennials Anymore

Social Media used to just a playground for the young, Now things have changed, platforms across space are being colonised by the older demographics which is largely due to Facebook where 53% of users in the states are now 35 or older. On Twitter, the age split is pretty much even with 45% of users being at least 35.

Instagram and Snapchat are still remaining a haven for the young. 69% of users are under the age of 35 for Instagram and Snapchat being even more with a staggering 82%. Saying this, however, each platform is expected to get older as time goes on.

The Line Between “Internet User” And “Social Network User” Has Blurred

If you use the internet, then there is a very good chance you are also on at least one social media platform. That may seem pretty obvious but this statistic has grown a lot over the last few years.

At this moment in time, Social Media penetration has plateaued in the developed world. Research suggests that the overall percentage of Social Media users to internet users will only increase by about 2% over the next four years.
